If the car has only short stop-go trips, the exhaust doesn't have a chance to have a good passive burn off and will have more active regens or clog. These types of loads will produce exhaust gas temperatures (EGT) of about 350-500oC which thoroughly heat up and burn the DPF. It occurs with higher sustained engine loads like freeway driving or fast acceleration onto the highway when exhaust gasses are hotter. The passive regeneration occurs with no action taken by the car's computer.

There are two typo of regen, Passive or active. If I were you I’d run the tank near empty and put in Shell V Power Nitro or similar, it may cost an extra £3.50 a fill or whatever but total false economy not to when you consider removing a dead DPF will set you back a few hundred quid or replacing one around £1500.ĭPF clog is a very common problem for our A5 if you do alot of short trip or city driving. If you’re only running for 20 mins a day and the engine is not getting up to temperature then these cheap high sulphur fuels will gunk everything up a treat. Not sure of your mileage but on an 07 your DPF could well be coming to the end of its natural life and putting cheap crap in the tank will only hasten its demise. Others may disagree but running on bog standard Tesco fuel is just asking for trouble IMHO. Ideally if you had a VCDS cable you could check when the last Regen was completed and force one manually if necessary when you most certainly would be aware of it happening! If they’ve just cleared the errors to get you out of limp mode, enabled you to go for a blast and things are fine then OK but if the probs return then there are bigger issues at work here. When you say the garage cleared the errors, what errors where they and did they take check the condition of the DPF? When all is working well I’m not sure that you would notice the car doing a Regen when on the run so it’s a matter of faith really.
